The French Farmer
The farmer who sells goat cheese at the Uzes Saturday Market is one of my favorite vendors. He’s certainly one of the most colorful.
Last week he handed me an invitation to an event he stages each year at his farm.
“Pastoral” doesn’t even begin to describe his farm.
Never would I have guessed that the modest man selling the BEST chevre at the market has a farm and family business this large scale.
On the way into the pasture, I was met by the property “guard” who looked at me suspiciously.
Visitors are welcomed where animals roam.
The “fencing” was as unique as some of the “farm” animals.
There were baby llamas …
... and llama’s mamas
Some very strange birds
By far my favorites were the ostriches. I’ve never been this close to an ostrich, much less a whole herd.
Yes, I was warned that ostriches can be quite dangerous. Certainly I was pushing my luck.
I couldn’t help but be amused. Please pardon the puns!
Being a “city” girl, spending a Sunday afternoon on a farm in the south of France was a happy surprise. Hope you enjoyed it too!
