Around France

Oh! “The Places You’ll Go!”

Kid Fun in France

The whirlwind tour of the south of France is now history for my recent guests, including 10-year-old McKenna. Now that they’re gone, the words of Dr. Seuss’s poem seem perfect to share with McKenna as a reminder of our kid fun in France.

“You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself any direction you choose.

You’re on your own. And you know what you know.

And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”

― Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

Travel Plan For Kids

For five days, McKenna, her mother, and I packed in as much history, animal adventures, and fun in the south of France as possible. Here’s a picture view of the highlights. Posts to follow will fill in the stories and learnings.

Day One – Uzes

Saturday market shopping, then dinner  at Le Comptoir 7

How many ways can you say “foie gras”? This entree featured foie gras as pate, ice cream and creme brûlée!

Day Two – Pont du Gard and Nimes

Tracing the Romans in France started with a visit to Pont du Gard. Wading in the cool river water was a perfect way to cool down on a hot summer day.

Day Three – The Camargue

A safari in the Camargue gave us “up close” views of the white horses, Camargue bulls, and flamingos.

Day Four – Sete and Carcassonne

A day on the beach in Sete

Day Five – Carcassonne

… and a lot of 10-year-old craziness along the way!

  1. Hi Deborah,
Have been really enjoying your blog for some time now, reading all your stories about Uzes and your adventures. My husband and I are here now for a month – have only been here a couple of days and know we are going to love it.

    • Thanks, Rich. Can’t wait to hear about your trip and see photos. We’ll have plenty of time to share when you and Paula finally get to Uzes!

    • It’s actually a book. She should have it. It’s so inspirational and it reminds me of all the things I’d love to tell her. Love you gals!

  2. There is no better trip planner than THE BAREFOOT BLOGGER!!! Thank you, my dear friend, for showing McKenna and I the very best of Southern France. You are living a dream! (PS: The last photo left me laughing!)
