Fall … In Love With Provence

The Barefoot Blogger’s mid-week drive from Uzès to experience Fall in Provence inspired some stunning photos to share. This time of year brings out my favorite colors in the crayon box.

Fall in Provence

Provence experiences a subtle transformation in the Autumn. As summer’s heat fades, the picturesque landscape takes on muted hues. The vibrant green vineyards and lavender fields give way to earthy amber, red, and gold tones.

Plane trees along the drive into Provence

Perhaps the plane trees along the roads in Provence show the most dramatic change. As green foliage is gradually replaced with tones of copper, the branches seem to rise skyward. It is as if these “arms” of the plane trees are reaching in desperation to catch the last hint of summer’s warm breezes and sun.

Tourists may not know, but Fall is the best time of the year to visit Roussillon. The ochre hills create a backdrop for the village’s palette of fall color on every street corner.

      • Beautiful pictures! They bring back wonderful memories of staying in Aix and traveling around Provence in 2005. I am so glad I found your blog as I have been wanting to live in France for a long time. I have been too busy raising children single handedly. I look forward to following your journey!

        • Lori, it is so beautiful here. I haven’t spent much time around Aix, but I hope to in the Spring. I know it’s a lovely place. Living in France doesn’t have to be a dream. I couldn’t have done it earlier, but later, when you have time to yourself, take a step … even if just another time to travel. Life is short. Hope you enjoy the blog. Let me know if I can help with any questions you might have.

  1. These pictures just wouldn’t have been the same in black & white. They might have had other artistic merit, but the rich colours that you’ve found in Provence deserve to be shared. Thanks for doing so…!

  2. Deborah continue your wonderful adventure through the Autumn and Winter and hopefully we can rejoin this wonderful trip next June for a wonderful summer of fetes and lots of good food and wine. The colors of the pictures show how diverse the French countryside can be with it wonderful rivers, mountains and lots of valley’s full of wonderful colors and hiking trails!!! Let the journey continue!!
