Why do we think France is romantic?
Is it because of glamorous and exquisite French movie stars like Catherine Deneuve, Brigitte Bardot, Louis Jourdan, Gérard Depardieu, Charles Boyer that we think France is romantic? Even Maurice Chevalier?
Or because movies like “A Man and a Woman” with Anouk Aimée; The English Patient and Chocolat with Juliette Binoche; and Amelie with Audrey Tautoo are imprinted on our hearts?
Perhaps we think of “love” and “France” because of the romantic cities
… and fairytale palaces
The castles…
The storybook villages…
Then there’s the art …
… the food
Let’s not forget, champagne — the elixir of lovers — and it comes only from France
If there was a poll for the “World’s Most Romantic Country” and you could cast only one vote. Which place would you choose?
I’d choose “France.”
… and seal it with a kiss …

If I could gather all my family together and transport them to France, this is where I would be permanently. I have been so very fortunate to have visited three times, each visit longer than the previous one. It is so enticing because of all you mentioned above. I too love Cheryl’s comment.
Come on and do it! Wouldn’t it be wonderful if everyone we love would join us. Come back often!
I think it is romantic because of all of the above. It is not just one thing it is a combination of architecture, food, wine, easy living, flirting, fashion, the cities and the villages, the terrasses….
You’re so right, Annie. It’s just being France that makes it romantic.
Love all your pics and how you illustrated it in photos. I was in Collioure this summer so I especially liked that one. 😉 #allaboutfrance
Thank you! I think Collioure is one of my favorite places yet. So colorful and loved the artists.
You nailed it! All so right, I can hardly wait to return.
Is it no wonder we love it so?? Thanks, Candi!
I can’t put a finger on why it is so romantic. But France is feminine, sweet, and intoxicating.
Oh how I wish I had said that! You are so right, Cheryl. Thank you!
Deborah all I can say is that you really know how to make me want to get back to Uzes a fast as possible. That was a wonderful topic and your analysis was SPOT ON!! My mouth is watering and I have a desire to go get a glass of wine right this minute–Maybe its too early and we do have a wine makers dinner to go to this evening with a 5 course meal but it will be nothing like the simple restaurant experiences that one gets in the small villages of France!!!
Thinking of France does make one thirsty! Enjoy!
