The best things on a France tour can be found in the Uzès market: eating, shopping, and music.
Here are some of my favorite bits and bites for those who like a little of it all.
Market sellers at work
Market vendors take great care of their wares and their customers.
Stops along the way
Morning shopping means taking a break for café au lait by mid-day. Afterward, I headed around the corner and down an alley for more shopping. To my surprise…a southern Dixieland band — South of France, that is!
Food for thought
Exploring and shopping is hard work, so a stop for lunch was a must.
Most meals I’ve eaten at restaurants since I’ve been here have been at lunchtime or déjeuner. That’s because I can get an excellent fixe prix meal at a fraction of the cost of the same meal at dinner. It’s also a healthier alternative since I can work off the calories before bed.
Saturday déjeuner was at le Bistrot du Grezac. The entre (starter), vegetable flan; the plat (main course), beef; and dessert, strawberries with a meringue cookie.
Impromptu cabaret
One of the most thrilling moments of my weekend was being entertained by the most enjoyable family in the plaza. The father showed up at the cafe where I had lunch on Sunday. Within moments a little girl played the accordion, and her mother joined him at his table. That’s when the fun started.
I LOVE THIS PLACE

Brings back lovely memories. We’ll be there visiting Rich and Paula in June of next year, following a river cruise from Lyon to Avignon (5/27 – 6/3). And then, because of your great blog about Bordeaux, we plan to spend a few days there before our flight home. We very much look forward to meeting you in person so hope you are in town then. Your blogs keep getting better and better. Elaine Agran
Thank you so much, Elaine, for your nice compliments. I’ll look forward to meeting you next year. So glad you’re convinced to go to Bordeaux. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Stay in touch.
looks like a lovely place to live! Bonne Chance!
Yes, Joan. It’s a dream come true…and so many more places to see. Thank you for your good wishes.
